Scientific Name: Mentzelia pectinata Kellogg
Caption: All Ablaze Photographer: Ken-ichi Ueda Image Source: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ken-ichi/4527680984/ Locality: California, United States (35.045752, -119.554903) Notes: Have to admit I thought this was a poppy, despite the five petals. Somewhere between kindergarten and grad school I guess I forgot how to count. Regardless of my mathematical deficiencies, this is San Joaquin blazingstar (Mentzelia pectinata), which is a mighty fine name if ever there was one. Also my first member of the family Loasaceae!
