Cal ellipsoid, becoming inflated, bilabiate with oblique orifice; pet long-clawed, the standard broadly obovate, auriculate at base, the wings and keel connivent; stamens 10, monadelphous nearly to the summit, the free tips of the filaments dilated, wider than the anthers; ovary stipitate; style with a tenuous basal part and an indurate distal part; fr enclosed by the cal, tardily or not at all dehiscent, 1-few-seeded; herbs or shrubs with odd-pinnate or 1-foliolate lvs and white, purple, or yellow fls in apparently terminal, usually pedunculate, head-like umbels. 20+, Mediterranean.
