Stem erect, simple, 5-10 dm, villous with spreading, pustulate hairs on the sides and angles and also minutely glandular-puberulent; petioles 2-5 mm; lvs lance-ovate to oblong, 6-12 cm, a third to half as wide, crenate-serrate, obtuse or rounded at base, hirsutulous above, villosulous on the veins beneath; verticils usually many-fld; cal-tube 3.5-5.5 mm, the lobes half as long, deltoid, scarcely apiculate. Mt. woods; w. Va. to Ky. and N.C., Ark. and Okla.; also near D.C. June, July. (S. nuttallii, misapplied)
