Coarse, erect annual 3-6 dm with 4-angled stems, large semi- cordate stipules and ample lvs with tendrils; lfls 1-3 pairs, obovate to elliptic, serrate or entire, 3-6 cm; fls 1 or 2 in the axils, blue or violet, 15-25 mm; cal distinctly bilabiate; fr 4-7 cm נ10-15 mm, 4-6- seeded, with pectinate-fringed sutures; 2n=14. Native of the Mediterranean region, established as a weed near Washington, D.C.
