High-climbing vine, the angled branches at first cobwebby or tomentose, later glabrescent; lvs mostly small, 6-10 cm, lobeless or with 3 short lobes, thinly cobwebby-pubescent, especially along the veins; frs in close, dense clusters, black, 4-7 mm. Woods and thickets; w. V. to e. Ky., s. to Ga. and Ala. A problematical sp., combining the general lf-characters of no. 7 [Vitis vulpina L.] with the pubescence of no. 4 [Vitis aestivalis Michx.]
