Stems 4-8 dm; lvs lanceolate or lance-oblong to lance-linear, 5-10 נ1-4 cm, long-acuminate, sharply serrate with ascending teeth, rounded to the sessile base; spike 3-6 cm, often short-peduncled, the fls conspicuously 4-ranked; cor violet-purple, 2-3 cm, its beard yellow; staminode purple. Swampy woods and bogs; se. Va. and w. N.C. Aug.-Sept.
