High-climbing vine; lvs petioled, ovate to ovate- oblong, glabrous and shining above, glabrous or minutely hairy beneath; infl 4-10 cm wide, fragrant; capsule 6-10 mm; 2n=28. Swamps and wet woods on the coastal plain, and also more inland southward; se. Va. to Fla. and La. May, June.
