Stems prostrate, to 7 dm, branched and often mat- forming, densely villous to subglabrous; petioles mostly 1-2 cm; stipules lanceolate, 2-5 mm; lfls broadly ovate to elliptic to rotund, 1-3 cm, rounded at both ends; panicles terminal or from the upper axils, to 4 dm; fls 4-5 mm, purple; stipe 1.5-2.5 mm; articles 2-4, 4-6 נ3-4 mm. Dry upland woods and barrens, especially in sandy soil on the coastal plain; se. Md. to Fla. and Tex. July, Aug. (Meibomia arenicola)
