Submersed or rooting in mud; stems weak, branched, 1-4 dm; lvs numerous, the submersed ones linear, 1-2.5 cm, sessile and truncate at the base, the emersed ones shorter, narrowly elliptic, tapering at the base. Minn. and Wis. to Kans. and O., s. to Va., Fla., and Tex. Summer. (Peplis d.)
