Stems and leaves moderately to densely hairy. 2n = 18.
Flowering mid summer-early fall. Dry to moist sandy soils in open areas in oak and pine woods, along dry streams, granitic and serpentine barrens; 800-2200 m; Calif.
Subspecies californicus grows in the Sierra Nevada.
