Perennial from a stout taproot, not stoloniferous; stems prostrate, pubescent, 1-2 dm; lfls linear to oblanceolate, 2-6 cm, 3-7 times as long as wide, thinly silky beneath; peduncles thinly hairy, 4-10 cm, pedicels hairy; fls 10-12 mm; cal hirsutulous, the tube 1.5-2 mm, the lobes linear, 3-4.5 mm; cor nearly white, the standard broadly obovate-oblong, obtuse, exceeding the obtuse wings. Shale-barrens; s. Pa., Md., w. Va., and W.Va. May, June.
