Leaves ± sessile; blades 20-50(-80+) × 4-12(-35) mm, sometimes obscurely to clearly 3-lobed. Peduncles 5-30+ cm. Ray florets 0 or 5-8(-13+); laminae 6-15 mm. Disc florets 15-80+; corollas 4.5-7.5 mm. Cypselae 4-5 mm; pappi of lacerate crowns 0.5-1 mm plus 0-3 bristles or awns 4.5-6 mm. 2n = ca. 52.

Flowering mostly late spring-early fall. Damp places in otherwise dry sites, igneous or limestone derived soils, thorn woodlands, desert scrublands; 0-1500+ m; Tex.; Mexico.

The name Wedelia texana has been widely applied to this taxon; W. texana has not been validly published [cf., Lipochaeta texana Torrey & A. Gray and Zexmenia texana (Torrey & A. Gray) A. Gray].
