Leaf blades elliptic, densely lanate on both surfaces, sometimes slightly less so and faintly greenish adaxially. Flowers 5-8 mm; perianth cream or ochroleucous, sparsely villous.

Variety elkoense is known only from the Sunflower Flat area northeast of Wild Horse State Park in northwestern Elko County.
