Plant: Perennial, glabrous or hairy; stem sprawling or ascending

Leaves: stipules scarious, fragile; leaflets 3-11, ± opposite, 1-2.5 cm, generally elliptic to oblong

INFLORESCENCE: 2-6-flowered; peduncle bract 0 or just below umbel, simple or divided

Flowers: calyx 4-6 mm, lobes < tube; corolla 8-13 mm, generally whitish yellow, claws included to slightly exserted from calyx tube; stamens 10, 9 filaments fused, 1 free

Fruit: legume, dehiscent, 2.5-5 cm, 1.5-2 mm wide, oblong; Seeds few, often ± reniform, generally hard, smooth

Misc: Open, moist forests, river bottoms, marshy meadows, open pine woodland; 200-2600 m.
