Cal campanulate or urceolate, 5-toothed, accrescent and enclosing the fr; cor funnelform, with an oblique, 5-lobed, slightly irregular limb; stamens mostly exserted, the anthers longitudinally dehiscent, much shorter than the filaments; capsule ±bilocular, circumscissile well above the middle; seeds numerous, flattened; embryo strongly curved; narcotic, poisonous herbs with ample, mostly toothed or incised-pinnatifid lvs; fls showy, borne in terminal, mostly secund and ±leafy-bracteate apparent racemes or spikes, the lower merely axillary (or adjacent to the axils). 15, mainly Mediterranean.
