Plants acaulescent or short-caulescent. Stems erect, to 1 m, 2.3-4.5 m with peduncle and inflorescence. Leaf blade linear, 20-75 × 0.4-1.7 cm, rigid. Inflorescences mostly racemose, sometimes paniculate proximally, 4-20 dm; peduncle 1.2-2.5 m. Flowers 3-5.2 cm; tepals creamy white, elliptic to lanceolate-ovate; filaments 0.7-2.4 cm; pistil 1.5-3.2 cm; style 3-10 mm. Capsules moderately constricted, 4.5-6 cm.

Flowering spring--early summer. Sandy hillsides of desert mesas; 2000 m; Utah.
