Infrequent to very rare throughout the state on the muddy shores of artificial ponds, in ditches, and in wet places in marshes.

Annual; stem 1-4 dm, glabrous or nearly so; lvs sessile, lanceolate to oblong, elliptic, or oblanceolate, 2-4 cm, narrowed to the base; pedicels stout, erect, 1-4(-10) mm; bractlets closely subtending and about equaling the cal; sep narrowly lanceolate, 4-6 mm; cor white, marked with purple lines internally, 8-12 mm; fr 5-9 mm; 2n=16.
