Dioecious; staminate fls with flat, spreading hypanthium, 4-5-lobed cal, and conspicuous, flat, 4-5-lobed nectary disk bearing the stamens in its sinuses, the filaments curved-ascending; pistillate hypanthium slenderly obconic, bearing 4 foliaceous bracts at its summit, the 4 tep erect; fr an ellipsoid yellowish-green drupe; shrubs with puberulent twigs and foliage, opposite lvs, and small greenish fls, the staminate in small terminal umbels, the pistillate solitary and terminal. 4, the others in China and Japan.
