Lomatium orientale is a low herb with compound umbels of small white flowers. The leaves are deeply dissected and the fruits are flattened and glabrous. Lomatium orientale differs from L. nevadense in that the fruits of L. nevadense are pubescent.

Much like no. 1 [Lomatium foeniculaceum (Nutt.) J. M. Coult. & Rose]; ultimate lf- segments oblong-linear, 2-10 mm; bractlets glabrous or nearly so, scarious-margined, wholly separate; fls white or pinkish. Prairies and plains; w. Minn. and Io. to Mont. and Colo. Apr.
