Plant: Annual; roots fibrous; stems erect, 5-21 cm; base brownish or purplish

Leaves: basal; 3-12 mm, oblanceolate to ovate or oblong, narrowed to a winged petiole, entire to finely crenate, hairy

INFLORESCENCE: ± raceme-like; axis ± zigzag; bracts 2-4 mm, elliptic to ovate, 1 per flower; pedicels 6-23 mm, 0.1 mm diam, ascending, S-curved, tip abruptly curved

Flowers: bisexual, inverted; hypanthium ± 0; sepals ± 1 mm, elliptic, erect; corolla 3-8 mm, divided < 1/2 to base, white, tube cylindric, lobes erect, upper lip puberulent, lower lip glabrous; filament tube 2-7.5 mm, tip abruptly curved, fine-hairy, anthers 0.2-0.6 mm diam; ovary superior in fruit

Fruit: capsule, ± 2.5-5 mm, fusiform (base and tip acute); dehiscing at tip by 2 valves; chambers 2; Seed 0.2-0.5 mm, widely elliptic to ± round; surface with obscure, lengthwise, wavy ridges

Misc: Sandy or gravelly slopes and washes; 300-2400 m.
