From Flora of Indiana (1940) by Charles C. Deam

This is evidently a hybrid between Quercus alba and Quercus bicolor. I found a specimen of this form in the woods of J. M. Hopper about 2 miles northeast of Onward, Cass County. There is another in the Deam Arboretum at Bluffton, Indiana, where it grew from Indiana seed planted there.
