Hypanthium saucer-shaped; sep 5, alternating with and exceeded by large, foliaceous, 3-toothed bracts; pet 5, yellow, cuneate-oblong, truncate or slightly retuse; stamens 20-25; filaments filiform, pistils numerous; style filiform, lateral; receptacle becoming fleshy and red at maturity, but not juicy or edible, bearing numerous superficial achenes; perennial herbs from a short rhizome, bearing several long-petiolate, 3-foliolate basal lvs and emitting slender stolons with scattered lvs, the solitary 1-fld peduncles arising from the nodes. 2, Asia.
