Plants sparse to prolifically suckering; rosettes numerous, rather open. Leaves 25-40 × 6-8 cm; blade grayish, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate; margins straight; apical spine 2-4 cm. Scape 2-4 m. Perianth tube campanulate, 3-5 mm; filaments inserted at top of tube. 2n = 60, 118.

Flowering spring. Sandy to gravelly or rocky places in desert scrub and pinyon juniper woodlands; 500--1500 m; Calif.; nw Mexico.
