From Flora of Indiana (1940) by Charles C. Deam

Infrequent on the moist, clay or gravelly slopes of the high banks of our larger streams and lakes and rare in prairie habitats. [Deam recognized variety longilobus.] This variety has calyx lobes 2.5-5.5 mm long, tube 4-5 mm long. I have it from Elkhart, Gibson, Kosciusko, and Warrick Counties. All Indiana forms are on one map.
