Erect, simple or sparingly branched, 1-2 dm; lvs sessile, lanceolate to linear, 1-2.5 cm; cor 1.5-3 cm wide at anthesis, marcescent-persistent and becoming tubular; fr narrowly oblong; 2n=10. Margins of salt-marshes and other wet places, often near the sea, but also well inland; circumboreal, s. to Me. and Sask. (Pleurogyne r.)
