Involucres 3-4 mm. Rays 7-11. Disc florets ca. 10-16. 2n =18.

Flowering Sep-Dec. Dunes by ocean, edges of brackish marshes; 0-10 m; Ala., Conn., Del., Fla., Ga., La., Md., Mass., Miss., N.J., N.Y., N.C., Pa., R.I., S.C., Tex., Va.; Mexico (Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz), West Indies, Central America.

Subspecies mexicana is found along the coast from Massachusetts to Texas and southward. It may hybridize with Solidago stricta along the Florida Gulf coast.
