Bracts lanceolate, glabrous or sparsely ciliate; cor white, 1.5-2 mm, its lobes 0.4-0.8 mm; fr ovoid, 2-2.5 mm, the fertile locule a little wider to a little narrower than the 2 sterile ones together, these separated by a ventral groove, as in one form of no. 4 [Valeriana edulis Nutt.]. Va. to O., s. Ill. and Kans., s. to Fla. and Tex. Apr., May.
