Annuals, 3-20(-40+) cm. Leaf lobes linear, 5-25 × 0.5-1(-2) mm. Peduncles 2-20(-35+) cm. Calyculi of (1-)5-8 linear bractlets (1-)3-8+ mm. Phyllaries (3-)8+, ± ovate to obovate, 6-10(-12+) mm. Ray florets (3-)8+; laminae (5-)12-20+ mm. Disc florets (5-)50-100+; corollas 2-4.5 mm. Paleae basally adnate to and falling with disc cypselae. Ray cypselae ± oblong, 5-6 mm. Disc cypselae oblanceolate to ± oblong, 5-6(-7) mm; pappi 2-3 mm. 2n = 24.

Flowering Feb-Jun. Openings in chaparral, desert scrub, yellow-pine forests; 100-1800 m; Calif.
