Perennial with solitary or sometimes clustered stems, 1-4 dm, commonly widely branched; lvs oblanceolate to oblong-elliptic, 3-6 cm, obtuse or subacute, cuneately narrowed to a petiole-like base; fls all long-pedicellate, 5-6(7)-merous; cal-lobes foliaceous, oblanceolate, 10-20 נ2-5 mm, nearly equaling to exceeding the pink or sometimes white cor-lobes; 2n=32. Wet soil on the coastal plain; se. Va. to Tex. and W.I. June, July.
