Thought to be a set of hybrids between nos. 3 [Aster borealis (Torr. & A. Gray) Prov.] and 5 [Aster puniceus L.]; rhizomatous; stem coarsely hairy as in no. 5 [Aster puniceus L.]; lvs 10-16 times as long as wide, only slightly clasping, long-hairy beneath at least along the midrib and toward the base. N. Wis. and n. Minn. to Sask.; apparently also in n. N.J. in a slightly less hairy form. (? A. lanceolatus var. hirsuticaulis)
