From Flora of Indiana (1940) by Charles C. Deam
Abundant on the alluvial bank of the Ohio River above the mouth of Fourteenmile Creek in Clark County. The variety flowers about 10 days earlier than the species which grew in abundance about a fourth mile from where the variety was found. The two were not mixed. The species was badly attacked by a rust but the variety was free from it. Another location is in Switzerland County on the wooded flood plain of a small creek about a mile and a half northwest of Vevay.
