Plants 30-100 cm. Leaves crowded, green; blades 1-3-nerved, oblanceolate, 45-70 × 5-14 mm, faces glabrous or puberulent , gland-dotted; distalmost shorter than arrays. Heads 10+ in cymiform arrays. Involucres 12-14 mm. Phyllaries 11-15, chartaceous, apices erect or ± recurved, attenuate (mostly glabrous). Florets 5-7; corollas ca. 10 mm, tubes mostly glabrous, throats ± abruptly dilated, lobes about 2.5 mm.

Flowering late summer-fall. Open pine and fir forests; 700-1900 m; Calif.
