Much like no. 1 [Collinsia verna Nutt.]; principal lvs oblong, lanceolate, or elliptic, 1.5-4 cm, widest near the middle; cal-lobes lance-ovate, 3-4 mm; cor slightly smaller, each lobe cleft 2-3 mm, the lower lip violet, the upper pale violet to sometimes white, much shorter than the lower; seeds 6-12, 1.5 mm, the ventral concavity small and inconspicuous; 2n=14. Rich woods; c. Ill. to e. Kans., s. to Ark. and Tex. Apr., May.
