Infrequent to frequent possibly throughout the state. Like most species of the genus it prefers tlhe dry soil of white and black oak woods and is generally found in open places and on slopes. [Desmodium bracteosum var. longifolium has leaflet that are pubescent beneath and merely acute at the apex. This variety] is found in the habitat of the species.
