Plants prostrate to ascending, 0.5-1 dm. Inflorescence branches: in-ternodes not glandular. Flowers 1.8-2 mm; perianth hirsutulous.

Flowering Jul-Aug. Sandy granitic slopes, high-elevation meadow and sagebrush commu-nities, subalpine to alpine conifer woodlands; (2500-)2800-3500 m; Calif.

Variety pratense is restricted to the southern Sierra Nevada in Inyo and Tulare counties.
