Slender shrub to 1(-2) m; lvs simple, sessile, elliptic to lanceolate, 1-3(-5) cm נ3-10(-15) mm; racemes erect, 3-6 cm, leafy-bracteate, often several and forming a terminal panicle; fls 10-15 mm; pods 1.5-3 cm נ5 mm; 2n=48. Native of Europe, escaped from cult. in dry sterile soil from Me. and n. N.Y. to Va. June-Sept.
