Known only from three widely separated counties. In sterile soil at the bases of wooded slopes or on the crests of ridges.

Very much branched, the very slender lateral branches with a few small lvs and rarely more than a single apparently terminal fl; fls also very few on the central axis, but a terminal raceme scarcely developed; herbage persistently yellow-green; pedicels at anthesis 5-25 mm; cal-tube 2.5-3.5 mm, reticulate-veiny, the lobes broadly triangular, 0.6-0.8 mm; cor 1.2-1.8 cm, pink; pollen-sacs 1.3-2 mm; fr subglobose, 4-5 mm; seeds yellow-brown; 2n=26. Woods, hills, and barrens; sw. Ont. to Ala., w. to Minn., Okla., and Tex. (Gerardia g.)
