Lvs usually 5-10 in each tuft, linear, obtuse, 2-5 cm נ1-2 mm, without distinction of petiole and blade; peduncles shorter than the lvs; cal 2 mm; cor 3.5-4 mm; fr globose; 2n=20. Muddy or sandy shores between tide-levels, in fresh or brackish sites along the coast from Nf. and Que. to Md.; also in S. Amer. Aug., Sept. (L. aquatica var. tenuifolia)
