Stems 3-5 dm from tuberously thickened roots; basal lvs obovate-oblong, 5-10 cm, forming a rosette; cauline lvs much smaller, lanceolate to oblong or oblanceolate, obtuse or acute; fls ochroleucous, 6-8 mm, the cor-tube surpassing the cal; nutlets obovoid, 2-3 mm, white, sparsely pitted, otherwise smooth and shining. Woods; Ky. to Fla. and La. May, June.
