Perennial from elongate, deep-seated rhizomes; stem very slender, to 1.5 m, with a few narrowly linear septate phyllodes 1-2 dm, these with basal sheaths 5-10 mm; rays 3-6; fr broadly elliptic, 4-6 mm, notched at the summit, the mericarps somewhat unequal; commissural oil-tubes 2, bowed away from the carpophore near the middle, lateral wings thick and corky with truncate margins; 2n=28. Bogs on the coastal plain; Del. and Md.; S.C. and Ga. Aug.
