Leaves: range from those of one parent to the other, usually with a broad cleft below the middle and some hairs on the lower surface.

Fruit: an acorn, cup deeper than that of Quercus alba, sometimes with marginal fringes like Quercus macrocarpa.

Characteristics: tend to be intermediate of the parents.
