Lfls mostly 13-19, lanceolate to ovate; pubescence of the infl of simple hairs only; cal hemispheric; racemes 2-5 dm; fls 1.5-2 cm, opening sequentially from base to tip of the infl; auricle of the wing-pet short, triangular, divergent from the claw; fr velvety; 2n=16. Native of Japan, occasionally escaped from cult. in our range, especially southward, and in se. U.S.
